Choose non-standard t-bar styles to elevate your ceiling
Most people enter our showroom with the idea that their accessible ceiling will look like the institutional tiles we grew up with. This is certainly no longer the case. There is an incredible demand both residentially and commercially for ceilings to contribute to the overall aesthetic of the space.
Tiles are now available in many designs, profiles and colours. You can even take another step further from traditional suspended ceilings and opt for a narrow profile grid system or specialty grid systems like bolt slot.

Let’s discuss grid options for your suspended ceiling.
Standard T-barStandard t-bar is widely used in commercial environments. This is the most economical grid option and a familiar one for most people. The face of the grid is 15/16” wide. Some of the manufacturer names for this style are Armstrong Prelude and Donn DX. |
||
Narrow T-barThis t-bar is 9/16” wide and gives a much more refined look. This small adjustment in track width takes the focus off the track and places it on the tile. This is sometimes called slimline and some popular manufacturer names are Armstrong Suprafine and Donn Centricitee. |
||
Bolt Slot T-barBolt Slot grid is a unique look. This grid is 9/16” wide like narrow grid but there is a slot in the middle of the face that is 1/8”-1/4” wide. Some manufacturers also have an option where the slot is painted black as a highlight. Some popular manufacturer names are Armstrong Silhouette and Donn Fineline. |
||
Embassy CeilingsThe Embassy ceiling system is another large step away from traditional t-bar. This system uses wood rails and panels to create a ceiling that has no resemblance to a suspended ceiling system. |
||
Teccor & Vector Edge TilesThe OWA Teccor and Armstrong Vector tiles have a groove in the side of the tile that helps hide the grid. These tiles install on standard t-bar and create an slim, shadowed gap between each tile. This is a high-end look without sourcing specialty t-bar. |

Once you have chosen the grid type, the tile choice is easier. Not all tiles play nicely with every grid option, so it is important you talk with one of our specialists to make sure you are getting the look you desire.
If you would like to see these options in person, our showroom has all the grid styles and over 50 ceiling panel options installed into them. This gives you an excellent starting point and will make the decision-making process easy.
